Why Your Support Matters

As a caring member of our community, you know how important it is to look after our most vulnerable neighbors, especially those who can’t speak for themselves.

For years, our shelter was underfunded, and sadly, more than 70% of animals once faced euthanasia due to lack of resources. Thousands of animals were killed for space every year. That changed in 2018 when Courtney Proctor-Cross became Executive Director and began managing the shelter.

Under her leadership, and with the backing of dedicated staff, volunteers, and donors, we turned things around: we now save over 90% of the animals who come into shelter care! WWVARA's life-saving work has earned local recognition and national awards, showing just how powerful a community can be when we work together!

Yet, even with all these successes, we find ourselves in a dangerous place.

This year, funding to the shelter was reduced by $150,000.

At the same time, we’re experiencing a surge in the number of homeless, abused, and abandoned animals needing help.

That’s why we’re asking for your help.

Our shelter simply can’t continue at its current lifesaving pace without support from WWVARA and the community. Every gift to WWVARA, no matter the size, helps us ensure each dog, cat, and other animal receives shelter, medical care, and a second chance at finding a loving home.
